The tip calculator provides you with two important results: the “Tip Amount” and the “Total Amount”.
The “Tip Amount” represents the exact amount you should leave as a tip based on the percentage you selected. The “Total Amount” gives you the overall amount you’ll pay, which includes both the original bill and the added tip.
The Tip Calculator uses the US standard for decimal and thousands separators. This means that a comma (“,”) is used to separate thousands (e.g., 1,000), while a period (“.”) is placed before decimal points (e.g., 12.50).
This format helps clarify larger numbers and ensures precision in calculations. Regardless of the currency you’re using, the calculator maintains this system for consistency and ease of understanding.
Although the calculator uses dollars as the default currency, you can easily use it for any other currency. Whether you’re calculating in euros, pounds, or another currency, the total amount and percentage calculations remain accurate because the formulas are based on the percentage of the bill.
Below the main result, you’ll see a table that breaks down the tip calculations at various percentage levels. This table shows three columns: “Tip %,” “Tip Amount,” and “Total”.
It allows you to compare how much the tip and total would be if you decided to tip at different percentages.
The tip amount is calculated using the formula:
Tip = Price × (Tip Percentage ÷ 100)
The total amount is then computed as Total = Price + Tip.
